For the June Murder Monday, Sisters in Crime’s Jacq Ellem spoke to Yrsa Sigurðardóttir, the best-selling author who has helped put Icelandic crime writing on the world map.

Yrsa Sigurðardóttir has authored a successful award-winning crime series of books based around the central character of Thora Gudmundsdottir, who is a lawyer and single mother of two children. She has also written, to critical acclaim, several stand-alone thrillers and horror novels.
Although she predominantly writes crime fiction under the fiction umbrella of ‘Nordic noir’, she has also authored five books for children and teenagers, winning two major awards.
Altogether, Yrsa has six novels in her award-winning Thora Gudmundsdottir series, six children’s books, five stand-alone novels, and one anthology – all produced whilst working as a civil engineer! Her books have been translated from their native Icelandic tongue into many different languages and have been sold in over thirty countries.
Her latest novel is Can’t Run, Can’t Hide which will be out here in Australia with Hachette in November.
