Nicki Thornton, the award-winning children’s writer from Oxfordshire, England, is our guest author for the August Murder Monday. She spoke about her crime craft to Jacq Ellem, bibliophile, copywriter, occasional broadcaster, award-winning podcaster, and a member of the new Tasmanian chapter.

In 2016 Nicki’s debut middle-grade fantasy crime fiction thriller, The Last Chance Hotel, won the Times Children’s Fiction Prize, and her novels have been nominated for awards, including the Carnegie Medal, the CrimeFest Best Crime Novel for Children and Specsavers National Book Awards. She has been described by Waterstones as “one of the most original children’s writers around”.
Nicki’s debut was Waterstones’ book of the month and it was followed by two others in the same series plus a spin-off magical mystery series set in the same world. Nicki now has five books under her belt. Her books have sold in 15 countries, and her sixth novel, The Floating Witch, will be published in 2024.
Her latest crime novel is the wonderfully titled The Poisoned Pie Mystery.
