The Life and Crimes of Vikki Petraitis

July 12, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$15 – $20

Vikki Petraitis, true crime writer and regular Dicks V Dames debater,
will be interrogated about her 25 years of crime writing

by

Emily Webb, fellow true crime writer
and co-presenter of the Australian True Crime Podcast.

Vikki Petraitis took to writing true crime because, unlike crime fiction, it was so raw and it told the story of real people, real grief, real loss, real horror. She has researched, investigated and written about real Australian crimes, from the well-known to the obscure; and interviewed countless police, crime scene professionals, victims, survivors and families.

She did ride-alongs with members of Victoria Police so she could learn about their most memorable cases, spent time with the dog squad leaning how the four-legged police officers are trained to work with their two-legged partners; and has become biographer to two well-known former cops, and to one of the many victims of institutional child abuse.

Her career as a true crime writer has resulted in 13 books, with subjects and titles as diverse as The Frankston Serial Killer, Crime Scene Investigations, Forensics, Cops, Once a Copper: Brian ‘the Skull’ Murphy, and the one that started it all The Phillip Island Murder.

Emily Webb,  is a journalist, writer and co-presenter of Australian True Crime Podcast.

She is the author of three true crime books, Murder in Suburbia, Angels of Death and Suburban Nightmare, which are being updated to be republished by Clan Destine Press in 2019.

The ridiculously popular Australian True Crime Podcast – hosted weekly by Emily, and her co-presenter Meshel Laurie, has had over 15 million downloads. The podcast, 112 episodes and counting, features some of Australia’s most intriguing crimes; and takes a look at crime by going beyond the news cycle to find out how people become killers, how people become victims, and what happens next.

This event is presented by Clan Destine Press.
