Open invitation: Launch of A Body of Work by Janice Simpson (Hybrid Publishers)
December 2, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Coroner Audrey Jamieson will launch A Body of Work, the first book in Janice Simpson’s series featuring Detective Constable Angela Micelli and Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan O’Leary – Sunday 2 December, 5.30pm in the pop-up park outside the Younger Sun, 28 Murray Street, Yarraville, weather permitting, or inside the bookshop, if not.
A Body of Work, Simpson’s contemporary crime novel set in Melbourne and Ballarat, tells the story of socialite and author Deborah Dangerfield’s murder at a Melbourne arts festival, and the subsequent police investigation which uncovers not only the murderer, but political corruption, organised crime and the damage done in dysfunctional families.
A Body of Work is the first in the series of crime novels set around major Victorian events. Simpson is currently writing one set at the Australian Open and is planning others around the Spring Racing Carnival, the Grand Final, and the Great Victorian Bike Ride.
Janice Simpson lives in Maryborough in Victoria’s Central Highlands where she is trying to finish her PhD in creative practice as well as the second novel in the O’Leary-Micelli series. Simpson is a former national co-convenor of Sisters in Crime.
Coroner Andrey Jamieson is a member of the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine Ethics Committee and the Judicial Advisory Group on Family Violence. Her relaxation reading and preferred viewing is almost exclusively crime –- from viewing episodes over and over of Miss Marple, Poirot, Vera and Shetland to night-time and holiday reading, she finds the genre compelling. It transports her to many places like the outback of Jane Harper’s Dry to Dervla McTiernan’s Ireland in The Ruin.
