For the second consecutive year, Sisters in Crime member, Sulari Gentill, has made the Australian Book Industry Awards shortlist for the Small Publishers’ Adult Book of the Year, this time with Give the Devil His Due.
Her publisher, Pantera Press, is understandably excited.
“Given that this particular award is associated with non-fiction titles, it is again wonderful to see great Aussie fiction in the shortlist,” said Alison Green, Pantera Press.
“Sulari Gentill is a skilled and talented author – we love her fast-paced, witty and clever tales fuelled by the historical events from 1930s Australia,” said Alison.
“In a category in which fact often dominates, it is great to see there is a strong and continuing place for historical fiction, and it is wonderful that Sulari is being recognised as a master storyteller of this genre.”
Sulari is already using materials she unearthed while delving through the archives of Old Parliament House during her stint in late 2015 as the Inaugural Writer-in-Resident at the Australian Museum of Democracy, so readers can be assured there are still many intriguing escapades yet to challenge Rowland Sinclair and his bohemian band of amateur sleuths!
Sulari writes in her pyjamas from her Black Truffle farm in Batlow at the foothills of the Snowy Mountains and admits that her stories are better when her characters are misbehaving.
Sulari has just returned from a sold-out Mystery & Suspense event hosted by the Queensland Writers Centre.
Following her upcoming appearances at the Sydney Writers’ Festival in May, Sulari heads West as a guest of the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival in June, before backtracking to Armidale for Deadly Secrets with the New England Writers’ Centre mid-June, and then to Coonabarabran for the schools-oriented Feast of Words Festival in mid July.
