Qld Chapter: Thriller Conversations

Sisters in Crime Queensland invites you to join journalist (and Sisters convenor) Megan Norris in conversation with authors, Sally Piper, Allie Reynolds, and A. D.  Penhall as they share the thrills and spills of their writing journeys and their tips for success.

Sally Piper’s debut novel Grace’s Table was shortlisted for a Queensland Premier’s Literary Award and she was awarded a Varuna Publishing Fellowship for her manuscript. Her second novel The Geography of Friendship was shortlisted for an Australian Book Industry Award and will be developed into a 6-part TV series by Aquarius Films and Dollhouse Pictures.

Her third novel Bone Memories was a finalist in the 2023 Queensland Literary Awards for a Work of State Significance and the Courier Mail People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award, and was longlisted for the 2023 International Dublin Literary Award and a Davitt Award. Her short fiction and non-fiction have appeared in various publications, including Griffith ReviewThe Saturday PaperThe Sydney Morning Herald, and The Weekend Australian.

Dangerous Devotions (Clan Destine Press) was first presented by author, A. D. Penhall, for her Masters in Writing at Sydney’s University of Technology in 2005.

The project later evolved into a fast-paced thriller debut thriller that explores the murky world of a niche-market Sydney escort agency whose disabled sex workers cater to clients looking for something different.

Penhall was born into a family with a diversity of impairments and forged a successful career as a speech-language clinician, psychologist and advocate for people living with disabilities.

She is the former Editor of Intellectual Disability Australasia.

Allie Reynolds’s gripping debut, Shiver, became an overnight international bestseller now available in 23 languages.

Her follow-up crime thriller, The Bay, is a hit in North America under the title, The Swell. Born and raised in the UK, Allie left the world of competitive snowboarding for surfing. 

She lives with her two young children on the Gold Coast.
