For the July Murder Monday, Sisters in Crime’s Jacq Ellem spoke to Sherryl Clark, the prolific author who has published more than 70 children’s and YA books, including novels, chapter books, picture books, and award-winning verse novels. Sherryl has also written crime fiction for many years; her first crime short stories were published in the Artemis Press anthologies, as well as The Age Summer Reading and in high school texts. Her passion for crime fiction began when her high school teacher gave her boxes of books by authors such as Mickey Spillane, James Ellroy, Agatha Christie, and Raymond Chandler.

In 2018 she entered her novel, Trust Me, I’m Dead, in the CWA Debut Dagger and was shortlisted. This led to Verve Books UK publishing three books in her Judi Westerholme series. Trust Me, I’m Dead was longlisted for the CWA John Creasey New Blood Award and the NZ Ngaio Marsh Debut Novel Award. Her secret wish is to write an episode of Vera. Her latest novel is Woman, Missing (HQ Fiction) introducing her gutsy new P.I. Lou Alcott.

Sherryl will be talking to Sisters in Crime in Melbourne on Friday 26 July. Book here.
