Writers on Ice: Created by authors Tania Chandler and Lucinda Gifford – it is a lively ICE-CAST about writing, books, and ice skating. Grants between $2,000 and $10,000 to supporting, mid-career, and established Australian writers and literary sector workers in pursuing professional development opportunities. 2026 Allen & Unwin Crime Fiction Prize – A Killer Opportunity Awaits! The winner will be awarded a publishing contract with an advance against royalties of $25,000. Open to all unpublished, full-length manuscripts in the crime or thriller genres between 70,000 and 100,000 words in length, written by residents of Australia. Closes midnight AEST 3 April 2026. Winner announced in September 2026, published the following year. Info here.
The Ned Kelly Awards. The 2026 award categories are: Best Crime Fiction, Best Debut Crime Fiction, Best True Crime, and Best International Crime Fiction (published in Australia). Close: Sunday, April 19, 2026 (11.59 pm AEST). Entry fee of $55 per title. A shortlist for each award category is expected to be announced in early August, and the winners announced in September. ARA Historical Novel Prize Submissions Open: The overall prize pool is now $155,000 with the Adult category winner receiving $100,000, the CYA winner scoring $30,000, and the Readers’ Choice winner bagging $5,000. All shortlisters in both categories receive $5,000 each. Entries Close: 17 June, 5 pm AEST. Winners Announced: 15 October. Info here.
